Find out what to pack when travelling with your dog and where you can go on holiday with your four-legged friend.
There are plenty of ways to spend a holiday with your beloved dog, but the most dog-friendly trips are those that don't involve a long car journey. Five or six hours on the road can be exhausting for your dog, and no owner wants to put their loyal companion through that. The best option is therefore to choose destinations close to home, or accommodation that is clearly marked as "pets welcome". Before booking a dog-friendly hotel, though, call ahead and ask about their rules for four-legged guests – it will make the stay more comfortable for both you and your dog. Holiday apartments and cottages with a garden are another great choice for dog owners: they give your dog space to run around in the fresh air without disturbing other holidaymakers.
What to pack when travelling with your dog
Before you set off, it is worth making a list of everything your dog will need. This makes both the preparations and the stay itself much easier. The most important item is your dog's pet passport or vaccination record – it contains vaccination details and other key information you will need in case of an unexpected visit to the vet. Make sure your dog is microchipped and wears an ID tag: if they get lost, this information will help you find them quickly. A lead, muzzle, collar, their favourite food and a water bowl are also must-haves for any holiday with your dog.
